Clean Sky 2 Joint Undertaking

Clean Sky 2 Joint Undertaking (CSJU) is a successful public-private partnership between the European Commission and the European aeronautics industry.
Clean Sky 2 Joint Undertaking technologies will enable future aircraft to cut fuel burn & related CO2 emissions by 20-30% and cut noise levels (compared to 2014) by a similar amount. It is also expected to significantly improve competitiveness and mobility in Europe.

This project has received funding from the Clean Sky 2 Joint Undertaking (JU) under grant agreement No 887104. The JU receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the Clean Sky 2 JU members other than the Union.

Logo Université de Bordeaux

The University of Bordeaux is ranked among the top French universities for the quality of its education and research. It is a multidisciplinary, research-focused, international institution.
The I2M – Institute of mechanicals and engineering is a joint research unit which produced pioneer work in developing innovative recycling process for carbon fibres.
Its role in the project is to perform scientific, strategic administrative and financial coordination, investigate life extension of prepregs, produce semi-finished products from recycled carbon fibres and manage communication, dissemination and exploitation work.

  Consortium members

VESO Concept is a mechanical engineering research and development company organized in two divisions. The first one is dedicated to structural and mechanical design and the second one focuses on the development of innovative bio-based and recycled composites for the transport sector (aeronautic, automobile, naval…) as well as sports and leisure activities.
Its role in the project is to specify the semi-finished products, analyze the performances of the different rCF (Recycled Carbon Fibres) fabrics in specimen composites, formulate a composite to produce demonstrators. Meanwhile, VESO is carrying out the data collection for the LCI study, developing the innovation assessment and studying a business case.

TORAY Carbon Fibers Europe (CFE)

Toray Industries, the world leader in carbon fiber production, prepregs and composites, has been active in Europe for nearly forty years, manufacturing and marketing TORAYCA carbon fiber solutions through its French subsidiary TORAY Carbon Fibers Europe.
Its role in the project, aside supporting the other partners with respect to carbon fiber materials issues, is to study legal framework and to lead market survey, exploitation strategy and innovation management work.

PAPREC is a major player in the treatment of industrial and household wastes. It recycles 13 million tons per year in France and Switzerland and already collects composites wastes.
Its role in the project is to implement a smart segregation system and to set up the logistic system for scraps containing carbon fibres.
